This phrase has been in common usage for such a long time. It is the perfect way to ridicule something that we don't understand.

There are all sorts of people who have had experiences as children and adults that do not fit into our Western, mainstream paradigm. Perhaps we will never know all the answers to these bizarre claims.

I love the idea of a man sitting in a room sewing hats that protect people from abduction.
