The Gods of New York was written on my return to Australia, after living in Harlem, New York City, for three years. The financial crash had taken its toll and Wall Street was occupied. I was a minor casualty of this particular drama, arriving back in the Lucky Country broke, busted, and heartbroken.
I had witnessed the election of Obama, the "man of the hour", and the
hope of the Afro-American community I was privileged to be a part of.
I wondered what spiel he would been given as he took the Office. Charming and handsome, this newest elect was still a puppet controlled by the many forces behind the throne.
Experts in following the money, people such as Catherine Austin Fitts, an analyst who brilliantly explains the financial Coup d'État & missing money, inform us that the recent crash, as were the ones before, was a controlled demolition. Since the inception of the Federal Reserve, the regular people, millions of struggling wage slaves, are just pawns in the money game.
lyrics
The Gods of New York. Meryl Leppard c. 2010
The Gods of New York
Are sitting in towers
Deciding their latest decrees
Bending the rules
With the stroke of a pen
That could bring this whole town to its knees
I'm up in Harlem
On 152nd street
Star of my own passion play
Snowbound and broke
I don't get the joke
Alone on Saint Valentine's day
The Gods of New York
Are planning a coup
A bloodless but deathly war
The moguls of Wall Street
Are giddy with greed
As they fondle their ships at the shore
My own prince of Harlem
Is scratching for dimes
Leading his troupes to the fray
I'm starring on Broadway
And 152nd
Alone on Saint Valentine's Day
The man of the hour
Is waving to fans
As he dances his wife round the floor
Spinning that rhetoric
With dazzling grace
Protected by marksmen galore
The crowd licks its lips
With a frenzied desire
Imagining these two at play
He'd give her the world
Well, a country at least
On a plate on Saint Valentine's Day
The Gods of New York
Are speaking in tongues
Of the deals they plan to accrue
Whilst ordering trinkets
From Cartier on Fifth
For their wives and their mistresses too
I'm here in Harlem
On 152nd Street
Heart-struck with dreams gone astray
No flowers or balloons
Or elegant tunes
Sung for me
On Saint Valentine's Day
Saint Valentine's Day
Valentine
