about

I have felt for a long time that we know precious little about our moon. Or is it our moon? Delving deeper into my research, reading anyone who claimed to have insider knowledge, the more I became convinced that this peculiar object in our night skies, is not at all what we have been led to believe.

There are references in ancient Greek writings that there was a time when the moon did not exist. Aristotle and Apollonios both refer to a moon-less heaven.

Scores of erudite scholars have commented on the moon's anomalies. One of my favourite quotes is the following:

“The best possible explanation for the Moon is observational error – the Moon doesn’t exist.
The Moon is bigger than it should be, apparently older than it should be and much lighter in mass than it should be. It occupies an unlikely orbit and is so extraordinary that all existing explanations for its presence are fraught with difficulties and none of them could be considered remotely watertight."
Irwin Shapiro, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.

We know from NASA's Apollo 12 mission to the Moon that seismometers set up to record the crash of the Lunar Module back on the surface recorded that the impact was equivalent to one tone on TNT. The resulting shock-waves continued for about eight minutes as the moon "rang like a bell".

Christopher Knight and Alan Butler in their book,
Who Built the Moon? say,
"The Moon has astonishing synchronicity with the Sun. When the Sun is at its lowest and weakest in mid-winter, the Moon is at its highest and brightest, and the reverse occurs in mid-summer. Both set at the same point on the horizon at the equinoxes and at the opposite point at the solstices. What are the chances that the Moon would naturally find an orbit so perfect that it would cover the Sun at an eclipse and appear from Earth to be the same size? What are the chances that the alignments would be so perfect at the equinoxes and solstices?"

The brilliant science fiction writer and Boston University Professor, Isaac Asimov said:
"We cannot help but come to the conclusion that the Moon by rights ought not to be there. The fact that it is, is one of the strokes of luck almost too good to accept… Small planets, such as Earth, with weak gravitational fields, might well lack satellites… … In general then, when a planet does have satellites, those satellites are much smaller than the planet itself. Therefore, even if the Earth has a satellite, there would be every reason to suspect… that at best it would be a tiny world, perhaps 30 miles in diameter. But that is not so. Earth not only has a satellite, but it is a giant satellite, 2160 miles in diameter. How is it then, that tiny Earth has one? Amazing."

Alexander Shcherbakov and Mikhail Vasin were two Russian Scientists from the Soviet Academy of Sciences, who in 1970 published a paper claiming that their research compelled them to ask if "the moon was an alien spaceship, a kind of construct?" They concluded that the moon is hollow. Of course they were mercilessly laughed at and derided!

This song is a homage to Shcherbakov and Vasin, for their boldness in stepping against the mainstream.

lyrics

Shcherbakov and Vasin. Meryl Leppard.c. March 2016

Shcherbakov and Vasin wrote
Almost fifty years ago
Our Russian minds
Have studied well
And we believe
Our findings show

The moon's a spaceship
A kind of construct
What's more it is hollow
It rings like a bell
The moon's a liar
With an agenda
A home for something
As far as we can tell.

Shcherbakov and Vasin said
We have reason to believe
Our shiny friend
Defies all laws
And hovers here
To deceive

Is it a spaceship?
A kind of construct
We think it is hollow
It rings like a bell
The moon's a liar
With an agenda
A home for something
As far as we can tell.

The people laughed
They always do
They crucify
The brilliant few
Who dare to say out loud
Why do you suppose
The Emperor has got no clothes

The moon's a spaceship
A kind of construct
What's more it is hollow
It rings like a bell
The moon's a liar
With an agenda
A home for something
As far as we can tell.
It rings like a bell
It rings like a bell
